The highlights of the Kedarkantha trek are the beautiful campsites, snow-covered pine forests, 360-degree view of the mountains and the chance to stand on top of one of the easiest trekkable peaks in the Himalayas. The total Kedarkantha trek distance is 23 Kms. The height of the Kedarkantha peak is 12,500 ft. You will get to see Godly peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch during Kedarkantha and come back absolutely thrilled and refreshed.
Assemble Early Morning at 7:00 AM at the Dehradun ISBT for our onward Journey to Sankari. Have Breakfast & Lunch while on the journey at a local restaurant at your own expense.
Overnight in the hotel/guesthouse in Sankari.
This day, get ready early morning and post breakfast, put on your gaiters and spikes provided by your trek leader. Let your trek guide give you a demonstration on how to wear them.
The trail starts in a beautiful pine forest and moving forward the gradient of the trail gets easier ascending all the way to Juda Ka Taal. As we walk steadily in a zig zag manner, we clear up the forest to a large meadow midway. Have Your Packed Lunch over here.
Our Campsite is approximately an hour away from this point. As we move further, admire the beautiful Himalayan ranges.
By Afternoon, we reach Juda Ka Taal, where we set our tents for tonight's stay.
The first stop for our today's trek i.e. approx. 4 km is Juda Ka Talab, a lake beautifully surrounded by pine trees and it gets frozen during winters.
As we continue to walk further into the forest, our trail opens up to a beautiful meadow. It would take around 3 hours to reach us to our next campsite.
Reach our Kedarkantha base camp by early afternoon. After an early dinner, go to sleep early as we need to wake up quite early at 2:00 AM for our Kedarkantha summit.
Get ready for the big day i.e. The Summit Day.
Get your head torches on and follow your leader on the snow slopes. While on the way, you'll encounter tea and snack points. You can have your refreshments while returning from the summit. Our steep ascent to the summit would take approx. 2.5 hours. Kedarkantha peak is 12,500 ft and sometimes you'll find yourself in knee-deep snow.
Try to make it to the summit before sunrise to admire the beautiful 360-degree view of the majestic Himalayas.
The most prominent peaks visible from the top are Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch peaks. You will also see Gangotri, Yamunotri, Har Ki Dun, and Rupin mountain ranges from the top.
Make your way back to the camp for a meal and from there we set for a new campsite called Hargaon post-lunch. Reach Hargaon by late afternoon. Overnight stay at Hargaon.
Wake up early in the morning to start our trail back to Sankari. It should take us 2-3 hours to reach Sankari from Hargaon as we walk through the pine forest.
After a short break at Sankari, we depart for Dehradun.
To Reach Sankari, It is advisable that you get to the Dehradun ISBT. From there, you have early morning buses leaving for Sankari.
Another option is to take a taxi from Dehradun to Sankari. You also get shared cabs from Dehradun Railway Station.
A Moderate level of fitness is required.
